Press Release Summary: Enterprise IT Management Solutions Help Manage, Govern and Secure Microsoft’s Virtualized Infrastructures
Press Release Body: DITTON PARK, UK, 8th September 2008 – In tandem with Microsoft’s “Get Virtual Now” event, CA (NASDAQ: CA) today announced its intent to provide broad-based support for Microsoft’s virtualization technology across its Recovery Management, Virtualization Management, Security and Systems Management products. This support will help Microsoft customers to effectively manage, govern and secure even the most complex virtualized environments.
“Virtualization technology can both reduce cost and improve service. In order to receive these significant benefits, IT staff require seamless management across complex physical and virtualized infrastructures,” said Louis Blatt, senior vice president for Strategy and Business Development at CA. “CA\'s planned support for Microsoft’s new Virtualization products is expected to deliver this strategic capability.”
Using familiar interfaces and common management consoles, Microsoft is providing a set of technologies to enable an end-to-end virtualized infrastructure. CA\'s solutions are being engineered to provide essential functionality to cost-effectively maintain the business continuity, availability, performance and security of this foundation and the business services that it supports.
CA ARCserve Backup, which has achieved Windows Server 2008 certification, now supports virtual servers for file system, SQL Server and Exchange Server servers using Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V, providing automated data protection and rapid recovery management. Other CA products that plan to support Microsoft virtualization technology in the future include:
• CA Advanced Systems Management, which is planned to support Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V management, is a vendor and platform-neutral solution that enables service availability by streamlining the management of complex physical and virtual environments.
• CA Access Control is planned to include Hyper-V support and mitigate several of the security risks common to virtualization. The support will focus on protecting the virtualization resources of Hyper-V through the separation of duties of privileged or shared accounts and providing consistent access control policies, resource protection, and entitlement reporting across the Hyper-V host and the various guest operating systems that can run on it.
• CA Network and Systems Management, which has been certified to support Windows Server 2008 management, is planned to maintain the availability and performance of business-critical services by providing centralized management of heterogeneous IT infrastructures.
• CA XOsoft Replication and High Availability currently supports replication and failover of guest operating systems residing in a Microsoft Hyper-V environment. Future support will focus on enabling more cost-effective business continuity, continuous application availability and verifiable disaster recovery of virtual servers by running at the Hyper-V hypervisor level.
“Our customers need to apply virtualization technologies broadly across their IT infrastructure to gain important improvements in efficiency, flexibility, continuity and agility,” said David Greschler, director of integrated virtualization strategy, Microsoft Corp. “CA\'s broad support of our desktop-to-datacenter virtualization strategy will help them achieve this goal.”
Microsoft’s “Get Virtual Now” event today is a kickoff of its global event series and communicates its virtualization product milestones.
